Acoustic enclosure for waterjet cutting machine at Volvo Buses in Gothenburg
At Volvo Buses’ prototype workshop in Gothenburg, modern waterjet cutting technology is used to cut a wide range of materials with high precision when developing and producing new bus prototypes.
The challenge was that this advanced technology also generated high noise levels, both from the water jet itself and from the powerful high-pressure pump – negatively affecting the work environment.
To reduce the noise and create a better workplace, Industridraperier delivered a complete solution in the form of a custom-built acoustic enclosure.
-
A large section of the wall and roof can be opened using an electric motor and control panel, making material loading and unloading easy.
-
The acoustic enclosure surrounds both the cutting table and the high-pressure pump.
-
The walls are built with 80 mm mineral wool for maximum sound insulation and finished with a durable alu-zinc coated steel sheet.
-
For increased safety, the enclosure was equipped with a robust glass door, providing a clear view of the machine during operation.
The completed solution resulted in a dramatic improvement of the work environment. The acoustic enclosure reduced the noise level by an impressive 42 dBA – from 95 down to 53 dBA – creating a much quieter and healthier workplace for Volvo Buses’ staff.
